Road Neglect (bad for West Virginia tourism)
The following 4 photos were taken on Sept. 29, 2004 on Cow Run Road in Jackson County, WV. The photos highlight the poor maintenance of the road. Unfortunately, there are several roads in Jackson County that are as bad (or worse) as Cow Run Road. The poor conditions of these roads did not occur over night (so some residents don't want to hear excuses from the DOH that they have had manpower shortages due to a flood, an ice storm, or similar excuses). Just drive around, and one will notice that there have been very few paving projects in Jackson County this year. Many county roads have also not had the weeds mowed along them this year as well, and you can see this in the photos below. Wouldn't you hate to be a school bus driver and have to drive on Jackson County's secondary roads in the condition they are in? Too bad we don't all live along the 4-lanes and Interstates in Jackson County where the medians are mowed and groomed and planted with so-called West Virginia wild flowers. Maybe someone wants to give the out-of-state people the impression that we have 1st class roads and that they won't notice the poor condition of the secondary roads. But thanks to the Internet, people from out-of-state can see photos of what our roads are really like (see below). As for tourism in West Virginia, people from out-of state can enjoy (and laugh at) the photos below without hitting a pothole.
